“…and [from] all the brothers and sisters with me…”
Galatians 2:2

Read: Galatians 1:1-5

Paul begins his letter to the Galatians by declaring his independence as an Apostle by saying in 1:1—

“Paul, an apostle—sent not from men nor by a man, but by Jesus Christ…”

At the same time, Paul affirms his connection to fellow brothers and sisters in Christ by saying in 1:2 —

2 and [from] all the brothers and sisters with me, to the churches in Galatia:

Living authentically as a follower of Jesus Christ can feel lonely and isolating, even in Church.  Society and religion often pressure us to conform by means of ostracizing and excluding.

When gentile believers in Galatia were threatened with exclusion from the household of faith if they did not conform to Jewish codes and customs, Paul in the first two verses of his letter to them affirms both our independence and our connection.  True Christian community is always inclusive, diverse and life giving.  Today, know that you are not alone in your effort to life authentically in Christ!

Respond: Questions for Reflection and Discussion
