“What then should we do? Pathways to Action in Troubled Times.”
Beloved of God:
We are in the midst of troubled times. Xenophobia is on the rise while white supremacy has once again raised its ugly head. Under the influence of lobbying from the gun and pharmaceutical industries, gun violence is ubiquitous and addiction is epidemic. Leadership failures in education have resulted in a school-to-prison pipeline that has robbed communities of color of a viable future. In spite of record corporate earnings economic disparities within urban communities seem entrenched.
Social justice movements have attempted to mitigate the damage by taking direct action in support of public policies that protect those who are most vulnerable. The church, however, has struggled to determine an appropriate response. What is effective and what is not? What is helpful and what is not? What is in keeping with the Church’s calling and what is not? Like the crowds who first heard John the Baptist preach, it is time for the church to ask “What then shall we do” (Luke 3:10)?
The 2019 Cleveland Baptist Association Urban Ministry Conference brings to Cleveland leading edge thinkers, speakers and practitioners from throughout the nation who are addressing and responding to these critical issues in urban ministry. Our 2019 theme is: “What Then Should We Do? Pathways to Action in Troubled Times.”
The conference will be held Wednesday, May 22 — Saturday, 25 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Mayfield Heights, Ohio. The cost for the four-day conference is $159.00 for groups of eight or more. We believe this conference is so important that we are making it available to Affinity Members for a cost of $99.00. To take advantage of this special offer, please register directly with Affinity in the Church lobby following services.
